Canva & Printing

Many customers are designing with Canva now especially for flyers, business cards and posters. Here are some pointers to help produce the best results when using Canva.

Firstly, Canva defaults to a colour scheme/profile of RGB which is great for your social media posts and websites but not so good for printing. Setting the colour profile to CMYK when you start your design is really helpful when you want to get accurate print results as most printers have only 4 colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

Try and size your Canva design to the size or dimensions you'd like it printed (e.g. A4, A5, etc.). Zooming in to the correct size will allow you to see how it will look with the images and font sizes used.

If you want an edge-to-edge print then your design needs Bleed (usually 3mm) and you need to stretch any colour boxes or pictures into this area. Commercial printers don't print edge-to-edge so your design is typically printed on a larger sheet and cut down. Adding bleed ensures there's no tiny white lines around the edge when guillotined.

When Sharing for Download use the following options: PDF Print, then tick Crop marks and bleed plus Flatten PDF. If you're on the Professional version then select the Colour Profile of CMYK (Canva is a bit naughty not allowing this on the free version).

Once you've downloaded the PDF send it along for printing.
